Reintegrating Humanity Back to Nature in Designated Beaches
Regulation of beaches as habitats
Human biology shows strong evidence that our species evolved in close relationship with coastal environments. Our feet are naturally adapted for walking and running barefoot on sand more comfortably than on any other terrain. Like dolphins, whales, and manatees, we lack dense body fur; an adaptation consistent with life near water. Our large brains, similar to other marine‑associated mammals, were supported by nutrient‑rich diets based on fish and seafood. Even our ability to be born in water reflects this deep evolutionary connection.
For these reasons, beaches, rivers, and lakes represent one of the most natural ecosystems for human habitation. Yet today, most authorities prohibit people from living along the shores.
This petition seeks signatures to request that Florida authorities establish regulated, designated coastal areas where humans may reside legally and sustainably. Reintegration with natural environments can bring meaningful benefits, including reducing homelessness, providing therapeutic living conditions that support mental health, and decreasing reliance on government food assistance programs.
